  • The popularity of Data Science related recruitment tasks in 2021 grew by 295% on a yearly basis, according to the newest DevSkiller Top IT Skills Report: Tech talent hiring insights. This puts Data Science on top of the in-demand IT skills of the future.
  • The current tech stack, however, was still dominated by Java and SQL. The two were each seen in 19% of test invites last year, tying for first place. Rounding out the top five were JavaScript (18%), Python (9%), and PHP (6%).
  • Belgian software engineers scored the highest on DevSkiller TalentScore coding tests in 2021, dethroning Australian software engineers who topped the ranking in 2020. Polish developers were the only ones who kept their place in the top 5.

DevSkiller, a Warsaw-based HR tech scale-up, has published the 2022 edition of its Top IT Skills Report: Tech talent hiring insights. It lays out the emerging trends of tech talent-hiring of the past year, as well as predictions for the next 12 months.

The top spot was taken by Data Science with a 295% growth in popularity year over year. Python (154%), PHP (90%), Cybersecurity (69%), and QA (56%) rounded out the top five, each with their respective year-over-year growth.

The rise in popularity of Data Science comes as little surprise given how valuable data has become to companies across the globe. This trend also fuels the dynamic growth of Python. At DevSkiller, we’re ready to respond to those market needs. The number of tasks in our testing catalog related to Data Science and Python grew in 2021 by 158.33% and 113.33% respectively.
