Patterns and trends in 2023

AI skills surge

Just over a year ago, OpenAI released its groundbreaking product ChatGPT. Since then, the generative AI tool has taken over, changing workflows across entire industries.

While the AI revolution is still unfolding and its total impact remains to be seen, we already have some exciting insights from LinkedIn that predict massive changes in people’s skills. LinkedIn suggests we’ll see a whopping 65% shift in skills by 2030 due to the mass adoption of AI. That means business leaders will prioritize specialists well-versed in AI tools to enhance productivity within their organization.

Top 10 global tech skills

This global AI adoption is further evident by a recent Udemy report where ChatGPT claimed the number 1 spot in the top 10 global tech skills with a vast 4,419% growth.

Despite popular misconceptions, AI is designed to alleviate monotonous and repetitive tasks, not to replace humans. AI will contribute to the job market, such as in the automotive and aerospace industries, where 73% of the companies expect to expand their workforce

It is no secret that the potential behind AI is tremendous, and consequently, the adoption rate of new intelligent tools has grown exponentially. McKinsey forecasts trillions of dollars in value added to the global economy by AI. In other words, this is a massive opportunity for every business to increase their revenue by incorporating AI tools in their workflows.

Skills shortage

Organizations have been experiencing skills shortages for some time, urging them to change their approach to hiring. Now, the emphasis has shifted within the hiring process from titles or years of experience to actual skills that can move the needle for your business.

According to Forbes, the most in-demand skills 2024 will be an exciting blend of technical competencies and soft skills. Some include generative AI, data, communication, and project management skills. It’s safe to say we’ll see increased investment in L&D to eliminate skills gaps and stay competitive in the market. Candidates will also prioritize companies that provide proper training and career development opportunities.

Judging by this trend, the most in-demand skills fall into two categories. One helps leverage the power of AI and other technology, while the other focuses on the many irreplaceable qualities humans bring. Those who can master both will become a valuable asset in any organization.
